UNIT MANAGER

General Responsibilities:
The Unit Manager is responsible for the overall management of the resident living unit; the supervision of the direct care staff; and the coordination of the services provided by other members of the unit team. The unit manager is directly responsible for assuring that all services are delivered in an effective, caring, and cooperative manner.

  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, preferably in a residential setting
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Self-control; sense of humor
  • High-school diploma or GED required

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervises, instructs, assists, and evaluates Direct Care Assistants
  • Prepares work schedules to assure adequate coverage on the unit
  • Applies personnel policies fairly and impartially
  • Participates in selections and training of direct care staff
  • Reports and takes actions on inappropriate direct care staff behavior
  • Coordinates overall implementation of each resident’s individual habilitation plan (IHP)
  • Confers with department heads, unit staff, and assists in problem solving
  • Assures and coordinates residents’ hygiene and comfort on the unit
  • Investigates and reports suspected resident abuse or neglect
  • Keeps Program Director apprised of all current unit operations, changes, problems, or requests
  • Participates in the development and implementation of IHPs
  • Responds to, directs, and records fire, weather, and safety drills
  • Communicates residents’ needs, status, and issues to on-coming staff on a daily
